Highlights
Aloha, and welcome to your preview of the Ninety-Nines’ International Conference.
YOUR ISLAND
| The island of Hawaii, commonly called the Big Island, is indeed the largest island in the Hawaiian chain. Comprising twice as much land as the other islands combined, you will find a diversity found nowhere else in the world in this small concentration of area. Pristine rain forests, lava deserts, world-class beaches, mountains, an active volcano, dazzling sunsets, ranches, hiking trails, and ocean enjoyment are all yours to explore. |
Your 2010 Conference is being held on the Kona, or leeward, side of the island. It is drier than the rainier Hilo side and that contributes to its notability for scuba diving, fishing, swimming, and snorkeling. |
YOUR HOTEL |
The Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Spa is situated on an ancient lava flow at the entrance to Keauhou Bay. Perched dramatically on black lava cliffs that transition inland to 22 verdant oceanfront acres, it is a short drive from the Kona International Airport. The 521 guestrooms and suites all provide you with a private lanai (balcony) that affords compelling ocean and sunset views or hillside views of the nearby dormant Hualalai volcano where famous Kona Coffee farms dot the landscape. |
| Activities abound at the Sheraton Keauhou Bay. Check out the resort’s centerpiece, the double pool with a waterslide (longest in all the Hawaiian islands), interactive fountains, whirlpool spas, waterfalls, and a sandy play area for children. Besides the pool, there is a fitness center, several walking paths, and courts for tennis, basketball, and volleyball. The Ho’ola Spa offers skin care, therapeutic and specialty massages, body treatments, saunas and baths, salon services, and hair design. And, of course, we all love to shop, so in addition to our 99s Fly Market, there is a complimentary trolley service which takes you to the Keauhou Shopping Center and on to the Kailua-Kona village for seaside eateries, historical structures, and all types of shopping and browsing. One attraction you will love is the nightly viewing of the gigantic manta rays feeding right outside the hotel. |

YOUR TOURS & ACTIVITIES |
You will have a wide choice of tours and activities to enjoy while on the Big Island. Two of the local offerings are to found nowhere else in the world. Check out the Volcanoes National Park where the Kilauea Volcano and its Pu’u ‘O’o eruption has had a constant lava flow since 1983. (Don’t get too near – the average temperature of the flowing lava is 2000 degrees.) The other unique opportunity is to get to go to the summit of the Mauna Kea (13,796 ft) on the Observatories Tour. Atop this mountain, the air is thin and incredibly clear which is why scientists recognized this spot as possibly the best place in the world to observe stars. Two dozen of the finest telescopes in the world are sprinkled about the summit or are in the works. There will be many other ocean and land tours and activities for you to choose from and will be available during your stay. |
| Having this Conference during the week rather than a long weekend gives you the chance to use the weekends before and after (plus your July 4th work holiday) to travel to other Hawaiian islands (Maui, Kauai, and/or Oahu) or to spend that time relaxing on the Big Island. The hotel is offering conference rates for 5 days before and 5 days after the official Conference days of July 5-9. The pre- and post-conference tours can be done through our destination management company (Travel Planners Inc.) or on your own. |
A 7-day post-conference cruise on NCL’s Pride of Hawaii will leave from Honolulu on Saturday, July 10th with stops at other islands, but also including Hilo on the other side of the Big Island. This cruise is sponsored by the Museum of Women Pilots which will receive a donation from the cruise line for each cabin booked. |
Mahalo, (thank you) and we look forward to seeing you in July 2010!
